Professor- Psychology(Ref 2018/026/01)

The School of Humanities and Social Science 

The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen (“University”) is established in accordance with the Regulations of the People’s Republic of China on Chinese-foreign Cooperation in Running Schools upon approval of the Ministry of Education. It inherits the educational philosophy and academic systems of The Chinese University of Hong Kong. It is intended to develop into a world-class research university with strong Chinese cultural influence. It is committed to nurturing high-level talents with global perspective, Chinese tradition, and social responsibility.

At present, the University has programmers in science, engineering, economic management, and humanities and social science. Its long-term goal is to have 11,000 domestic and international students, 7,500 of whom will be undergraduate students and 3,500 Masters or PhD students.

The University has an international learning environment, a bilingual teaching pedagogy with English being the primary medium of instruction, a collegiate system, general education curriculum, multidisciplinary programmes, and a student-centered educational philosophy.

The School of Humanities and Social Science (HSS) HSS has two missions. First, HSS provides university core curriculum for all students, including general education, English language competency, Chinese cultural heritage and language competency, physical education, basic competency in information technology (IT) applications. Beyond the university core curriculum, HSS intends to develop to become a school of excellence in humanities and social sciences, and to provide high-quality programmes in multiple areas at both undergraduate and postgraduate level, including, but not limited to, translation & interpreting studies, simultaneous interpreting, applied psychology, international affairs & international relations (global studies), internet and new media, advanced English communication, urban studies, educational studies, sociological studies. The University recruits first-class faculty members from around the world, and we welcome high caliber faculty of diverse background from around the world to join us and establish a top-tier School of Humanities and Social Science in China.

Positions and Qualifications

The School of Humanities and Social Science at CUHK(SZ) invites applications for multiple faculty positions in psychology at the ranks of full/associate/assistant professor levels with prospect for tenure. Priorities will be given to those with expertise in educational psychology, counselling/health psychology, or industrial/organizational psychology, although other specialization areas will also be considered. All candidates should have (i) a PhD degree (by the time of reporting duty) in a relevant area of psychology; and (ii) evidence of high potential for excellence in teaching and scholarship.

Candidates for associate/full professor positions are expected to have solid evidence of excellence in teaching/research/service, and a strong track record of sustained high-quality research/scholarship outcomes in the expertise area(s), as evidenced by research publications in competitive international outlets (e.g., SSCI- or SCI-indexed journals) in the relevant areas of psychology. In addition, candidates need to demonstrate academic leadership and strong commitment to the highest standard of excellence. Candidates for assistant professor positions need to have evidence or demonstrate potential for teaching and research excellence. Applicants are advised to provide quality indicators for the journals where they have research publications (e.g., journal impact factor, journal ranking in a relevant category, as available in the Journal Citations Reports of the Web of Science). 

Successful applicants are expected to teach a range of courses in core areas of psychology. Experience in supervising postgraduate students will be favorably considered.

Appointments will normally be made on contract basis initially, leading to longer-term appointment or tenure later, subject to successful performance evaluation and mutual agreement. In cases where a candidate has an established record of excellence and demonstrable potential for continued success, tenure may be granted to the candidate at the time of initial appointment.

The appointees are expected to commence work before or in August 2019.

Salary will be internationally competitive, commensurate with experience and academic accomplishments. Appointments will be made under the establishment of CUHK(SZ) and statutory benefits will be provided according to the prevailing labor laws applicable to the PRC. The appointee will be based in Shenzhen, China.

Position and Expected Qualifications

The School of Humanities and Social Science at CUHK (SZ) invites nominations and applications for a senior scholar position in the area of international affairs & international relations (global studies), broadly defined, including, but not limited to, international relations, international and regional studies, globalization development and trends, global governance, global sustainability, etc..

Candidates for this senior position are expected to have prior experience in leadership position(s) in the relevant areas, and to have attained professorship rank (or equivalent) or above (e.g., distinguished professorship, chair professorship) in competitive institutions. The successful candidate for this position is expected to serve as the leader in establishing and developing a center/program of excellence in the area of global studies (broadly defined, and name tentative).  

Appointments will normally be made on contract basis for up to three years initially, leading to longer-term appointment or tenure later, subject to successful performance evaluation and mutual agreement. In cases where a candidate has an established record of excellence and demonstrable potential for continued success, tenure may be offered to the candidate at the time of initial appointment.

The appointee is expected to commence work from academic year of 2018-19 (the actual starting date is negotiable).

The School of Humanities and Social Science at CUHK(SZ) invites applications for multiple faculty positions in the areas of internet and new media (specialization areas including, but not limited to, social media analytics, data journalism, cybersecurity and internet governance, digital and mobile media design, media psychology, health communication, marketing communication, etc.), at the rank of full professor/associate professor levels with prospect for tenure, although junior candidates with very competitive academic records may be considered for positions of assistant professor. Candidates with exceptionally outstanding records may be considered for Chair Professorship with tenure. All candidates should have (i) a PhD degree (by the time of reporting duty) in a relevant area of new media studies; and (ii) evidence of high potential for excellence in teaching and scholarship.
