University Introduction

The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen [CUHK(SZ)] is a new, independent university established through a Memorandum of Understanding between The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), Shenzhen University and the Shenzhen Municipal Government. The new University is a research-orientated, forward-thinking, non-profit-making University, which places emphasis on cross-disciplinary teaching and research. CUHK(SZ) will nurture university graduates who are international in outlook, learned in the disciplines they follow, upright in their character, and committed to serving the needs of society.

At present, more than 3,000 undergraduate and postgraduate students are studying at CUHK(SZ). The University has programmes in science, engineering, economic management, and humanities and social science. Its long term goal is to recruit 11,000 domestic and international students, 7,500 of whom will be undergraduate students and 3,500 Masters or PhD students.

At present, several research centers have been established in the School of Science and Engineering, including State Joint Engineering Laboratory in Robotics and Intelligent Manufacturing, Institute of Big Data, Arieh Warshel Institute of Computational Biology, Kobilka Institute of Innovative Drug Discovery, Hopcroft Institute for Advanced Study in Information Sciences, and Shenzhen Key Laboratory of Semiconductor Laser, etc.

 

Laboratory Introduction

Marine Robotics Laboratory emphasizes on research topics including robot design, perception, control, energy management, etc. for marine environment. We are carrying out research projects, e.g. Key Project from NSFC-Shenzhen Fundamental Research Center, Shenzhen Robotics Discipline Development Project, etc. Dr. Huihuan Qian, the Lab Director, is currently Assistant Professor of School of Science and Engineering. He also serves as the Deputy Associate Director in State Joint Engineering Laboratory in Robotics and Intelligent Manufacturing.

Job Description

Applicants should have:

1.PhD degree related to robotics.

2.Research experience in robot design and control for a long period, and good publication record in top international conferences and journals.

3.Organizing capability in research, good communication skills in oral/written English and Chinese, and capability to assist in leading a small research team to conduct frontier academic research.

4.Good potential in classroom teaching, with the ability to present academic opinions clearly in English.

5.Research experience in autonomous sailboats or surface/underwater robot design (priority)

 

Job Duties include:

1.To assist in supervising the research team in frontier academic research in autonomous sailboats.

2.To teach some relevant courses in School of Science and Engineering.

 

Salary and Fringe Benefits

Salary will be comparable to international standards, commensurate with experience and accomplishments. Appointments will be made under the establishment of CUHK-Shenzhen, and employee benefits will be provided according to the relevant labor laws of Mainland China as well as CUHK-Shenzhen regulations.

Teaching Assistant - MSc in Data Science Program (Ref.2018/261/01)

MSc in Data Science is a joint programme launched by School of Science and Engineering and School of Management and Economics, in collaboration with Shenzhen Research Institute of Big Data and Shenzhen Finance Institute. The Programme is aimed to equip students with fundamental knowledge as well as skills in big data and business analytics, and provide students with the cutting-edge theories and methods of big data technology, so that our graduates will be able to tackle issues of data capture, storage and analysis in various sectors, including business, government, security, healthcare, biology, science and environment. All courses are taught in English. Programme duration: 18 months.

Post Specification

The appointee will be responsible for

a)    Assisting course instructor to carry out teaching in the area of Mathematics, Programming, Finance or other Science/Engineering/Business disciplines;

b)    Preparation of teaching materials/classes;

c)    Conducting tutorial classes

d)    Grading assignments, project reports and test/exam papers;

e)    Coordinating academic activities for students;

f)     Assisting professors to carry out research projects, such as collecting data and relevant information;

g)    Undertaking other assignment assigned by the supervisor.

Located in the Longgang District of Shenzhen, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen [CUHK-Shenzhen] is a research-intensive university, established in 2014 through a Mainland–Hong Kong collaboration with generous support from the Shenzhen Municipal Government. It inherits the fine academic traditions of The Chinese University of Hong Kong and will develop its academic programmes in phases and offer courses in Schools of Science and Engineering, Management and Economics, and Humanities and Social Science.
