Senior Scholar - Global Studies (Ref.2017/210/01)

The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen (“University”) is established in accordance with the Regulations of the People's Republic of China on Chinese-foreign Cooperation in Running Schools upon approval of the Ministry of Education. It inherits the educational philosophy and academic systems of The Chinese University of Hong Kong. Position and Expected Qualifications

The School of Humanities and Social Science at CUHK (SZ) invites nominations and applications for a senior scholar position in the area of global studies (broadly defined, including, but not limited to, international relations, international and regional studies, globalization development and trends, global governance, global sustainability, etc.).

Candidates for this senior position are expected to have prior experience in leadership position(s) in the relevant areas, and to have attained professorship rank (or equivalent) or above (e.g., distinguished professorship, chair professorship) in competitive institutions. The successful candidate for this position is expected to serve as the leader in establishing and developing a center/program of excellence in the area of global studies (broadly defined, and name tentative).  

Appointments will normally be made on contract basis for up to three years initially, leading to longer-term appointment or tenure later, subject to successful performance evaluation and mutual agreement. In cases where a candidate has an established record of excellence and demonstrable potential for continued success, tenure may be offered to the candidate at the time of initial appointment.

The appointee is expected to commence work from January 2017 (the actual starting date is negotiable).

The School of Humanities and Social Science at CUHK(SZ) invites applications for faculty positions in translation technology at the Senior Lecturer/Lecturer/Assistant Lecturer levels.

Junior applicants should have (i) a Ph.D. degree (by the time of reporting duty) in NLP or related areas; (ii) high potential in teaching and research, (iii) a high level of English language proficiency.

Applicants should be able to teach a wide range of courses, especially in language technologies such NLP, CAT, MT, PE and other related areas. Extensive work experience with LSP will be favourably considered.

Applicants with very competitive academic records may be considered for position of assistant professor. Positions and Qualifications
The School of Humanities and Social Science at CUHK(SZ) invites applications for multiple faculty positions in psychology (specialization areas in psychology are flexible), at the rank of full professor/associate professor levels with prospect for tenure, although junior candidates with very competitive academic records may be considered for positions of assistant professor. All candidates should have (i) a PhD degree (by the time of reporting duty) in a relevant area of psychology; and (ii) evidence of high potential for excellence in teaching and scholarship.

Candidates for associate and full professor positions are expected to have solid evidence of excellence in teaching/research/service, and a strong track record of sustained high-quality research/scholarship outcomes in the expertise area(s), as evidenced by research publications in competitive international outlets (e.g., SSCI- or SCI-indexed journals) in the relevant areas of psychology. In addition, candidates need to demonstrate academic leadership and strong commitment to the highest standard of excellence. Applicants are advised to provide quality indicators for the journals where they have research publications (e.g., journal impact factor, journal ranking in a relevant category, as available in the Journal Citations Reports of the Web of Science).

Lecturer/Assistant Lecturer - The Centre for Self-Access Language Learning (Ref.2017/006/01)

The Self-Access Language Learning Centre (The SALL Centre) is a unit within the School of Humanities and Social Science set up to provide individualized language learning opportunities for students to consolidate and brush up their level of English language proficiency. The Centre is open to all students enrolled at CUHK(SZ), regardless of their levels of study. Learning is completely on students’ own, at the students’ own pace and by the students’ own choice of learning materials.

Services provided at the Centre include computerized English learning programmes, tutoring/consultation, workshops, seminars and the English Table. The e-learning programmes are self-accessed and provide students with the opportunity to reinforce and expand their knowledge and skills in the use of English. Tutoring provides students with face-to-face consultation on problems and issues students may have in using English. Workshops and seminars are offered regularly to students on specific areas of language that may be of interest to students. The English Table is set up to provide opportunities for students to have care free conversations in English.

Junior applicants should have (i) a PhD degree (by the time of reporting duty) in T&I studies; (ii) high potential in teaching and research.

Applicants should be able to teach a wide range of courses, especially in core areas of T&I studies. Extensive experience with language service shall be favourably considered.

Candidates for Associate and Full Professor posts are expected to have demonstrated academic leadership and strong commitment to the highest standard of excellence. Appointments will normally be made on contract basis for up to three years initially, leading to longer-term appointment or tenure later subject to mutual agreement. Exceptionally, appointment with tenure can be offered forthwith to candidates of proven ability.
