CUHK-Shenzhen holds the Award Ceremony of the Presidential Exemplary Teaching Award
The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen bestowed the Presidential Exemplary Teaching Award (PETA) on 29 April 2021. President Prof. XU Yangsheng, Vice-Presidents Prof. LUO Zhiquan and Mr. YUEN Kin Chung, Associate Vice-Presidents (AVPs) Prof. CAI Xiaoqiang, Prof. GU Yang and Prof. ZHU Baoting, and staff from schools and admin departments attended the ceremony. The ceremony was chaired by Prof. LI Lan, Director of CLEAR.
The Presidential Exemplary Teaching Award Scheme was launched in 2017 in order to honour the outstanding teachers, and the University Exemplary Teaching Assistant Award was added in 2019. All winners were nominated by schools, selected by the university committee on PETA, and finally approved by the President.
Prof. CAI Xiaoqiang expressed that the award not only serves as the recognition of the teachers’ contribution to teaching, but also reflects the University's commitment to quality education. Prof. CAI announced the winners of the award. President Prof. XU Yangsheng bestowed the prize to each awardee and had photos with them respectively.
Due to the impact of the pandemic, the award ceremony rewarded the winners of two academic years, 2018- 2019 and 2019-2020. The nine winners for the PETA are Dr. SUN Cong and Assistant Professor YANG Shijie of School of Economics and Management; Dr. Mario HUANG and Assistant Professor Daniel WONG of School of Science and Engineering; Dr. LIN Chengchuan and Assistant Professor HE Jinbo of School of Humanities and Social Sciences; Dr. CHEN Jihang and Assistant Professor DU Yang of School of Life and Health Sciences; and Associate Professor CHEN Tianshi of School of Data Science.
Mr. HUANG Zhipeng of School of Data Science and Ms. CHENG Jiayu of School of Science and Engineering won the Exemplary Teaching Assistant Award.
Three award representatives shared their teaching philosophy and experience at the ceremony. Dr. LIN Chengchuan of HSS believed that a good teacher should treat students equally, foster their critical thinking and help them to realize their potential. Prof. DU Yang of LHS held that students can achieve optimal learning efficiency in a pleasant learning environment; He has tried his best to keep his students in a happy mood. Mr. HUANG Zhipeng, the Teaching Assistant of SDS also shared his experience working and learning together with undergraduates.
