The Chinese ink art is famed for its rich history and profound contents. Mr. Li Shiming, having been dedicated to the creation of traditional Chinese painting and calligraphy for years, perfectly captures the realistic and plain beauty of western architecture and humanities to display a series of artworks that combine together eastern ink art and western culture.
The exhibition will last from 17 November to 11 December for nearly one month. 3 sections with more than 90 pieces of artworks will be on display, including the Sojourning in France Series, the Copied Painting Series and the Distinguished Professors-at-Large Series. The copied and sketching paintings created during his visit to France from July to September in 2017 will also be shown at the exhibition.
In the paintings of the Sojourning in France series, Mr. Li vividly depicts the dynamic scenes of the streets, buildings and the people in the city of Paris and also the pleasant landscape of the countryside.
During the period between July and September in 2017, upon invitation from the Director of the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris, Mr. Li resided at the Lv Chakwan Studio in the Art City for academic and cultural exchange. He often went on foot to the nearby Louvre to copy the artworks there, including a Picasso sculpture – the "She-Goat" which was casted by wooden boards, dustpans and porcelain, etc. Compared to the original artwork, the goat painted in ink is of a unique charm in particular.
The Portraits of Distinguished Professors-at-Large series is a special ink art creation on the invitation of The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen. This section features 5 portraits created for the Distinguished Professors-at-Large of the University, including Professor Arieh WARSHEL (Nobel Laureate in Chemistry), Professor Aaron CIECHANOVER (Nobel Laureate in Chemistry), Professor Michael WATERMAN, World-renowned Bio-informatics Scientist, Professor Myron SCHOLES (Nobel Laureate in Economic Science), Brian K. KOBILKA (Nobel Laureate in Chemistry).
We warmly welcome your visit to the exhibition to enjoy the humanistic Paris within the art of ink and the pleasure of combining eastern and western culture.
