Post Specification
Provide expertise in acquiring and integrating electronic resources into the Libraries’ collections.
As the primary liaison with vendors regarding electronic resources, responsible for negotiating licenses, ordering, and managing access to electronic resources.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Manages the life cycle processes for electronic resources and serves as the expert resource for issues related to these processes within the Department and throughout the Libraries;
2. Duties include working with collection development in identifying electronic resources for consideration, establishing product trials for evaluation, managing license and contract terms related to electronic resources, and collaborating with collection development in the negotiation of resources;
3. Works closely with Cataloging and Metadata Services on electronic resource access and management issues and also interacts with publishers, vendors and aggregators to acquire, establish and maintain access to electronic resources;
4. Ability to work productively in a team environment with vendors, subject librarians, purchase departments or other personnel.
Qualifications and Requirements:
1. Master degree in library science OR equivalent education and experience relevant to the position, advanced degrees in relevant fields will be given preference in consideration;
2. 5+ year professional experience working in acquiring and managing electronic resources in an academic or research library. Experience with an Electronic Resources Management System (Alma);
3. Knowledge of current issues in acquiring, licensing, and managing access to electronic resources;
4. Strong ability to negotiate and maintain electronic resources’ licenses and contracts;
5. Ability to take a user-centered approach in providing access to electronic resources;
6. Ability to exercise creativity and initiative in troubleshooting problems with electronic resources access;
7. Ability to effectively collaborate across departments and divisions on issues related to electronic resources;
8. Ability to make decisions independently within the framework of departmental and library policies and goals;
9. Skill in planning and implementing projects;
10. Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills;
11. Strong commitment to quality customer service;
12. Good knowledge of copyrights, contracts and other relevant legal policies.
Salary and Benefits
Salary will be competitive, commensurate with qualifications and experience. Appointments will be made under the establishment of CUHK-SZ and statutory benefits will be provided according to the prevailing labor laws applicable in the PRC. The appointee will be based at the University campus in Shenzhen, PRC.
